The planet is over 4.5 billion years. Most of the time occupied only by bacteria and other single celled species.
Its only been a few hundred millions of years for mostly simple forms of multi celled living entities. Human beings have been around about a million years and out of that time we have about 6 thousand years of something resembling a society.
It is hard to call any of the societies that we have built social. The Communist class less society will be the first truly civilized society. We have not come close to that society yet.
In order words we we spent a lot of time by ourselves with some bumping into our mate for some reproduction. Is it any wonder that the technology of egotism has had plenty of time to develop.
Violence is merely random interactions, nature way of forcing interactions between its particles to stimulate the development of order.
The ultimate of which is consciousness. Decrying violence is denying an essential aspect of our nature. It is the yin to our yan of consciousness.
I reminded of Shakespeare when thinking of this conundrum:
"All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances,"
It made me think of the ultimate desire for that all knowing being that we all espouse to. After achieving such state, that being finds it unsustainable. It is the very definition of boredom.
The only thing that can combat this eternal boredom, is its negation. Thus the Big Bang. The ultimate karma for us as an instance or facade of that which is everything.
What we are going through has already occurred. Humpty dumpty is being put back together again.
When dealing with infinity and transinfinity as discovered by the German mathematician Georg Cantor, there are probably infinity to the power of infinity, to the power of infinity , etc... ways of regaining that absolute knowledge and consciousness of self that we call God.
It is the many ways we can entertain ourselves going from nothing to everything or in Hegelian terms moving from the particular to the universal which helps us past the time throughout eternity.
I am a bit of a speculatist pantheist as you have no doubt guessed.
To be consistent with my dialectical materialism I kept it at the speculative level. I have no faith at all accept for reason itself.
Regarding your Humanity, don't worry about it. Clearly Humanity is just a step on the evolutionary ladder.
It will be exciting to see what we evolve next into. If we don't kill ourselves. In which case another branch of nature will jump in the race for consciousness.
This movement is irresistible and relentness.
We have only to follow the laws of nature to survive. This means resisting overcoming our primitive egotism or what is just the living form of inertia.
Have you had enough philosophy? I try to keep to Marx's dictum about philosophers changing the world and not just describing it.
Of course he did not mean that we should remain ignorant of it as a lot overly political Marxist politicians and activists often are.
